What is Palm Oil?

To obtain RSPO certification, producers must meet a number of criteria including protecting biodiversity, reducing carbon emissions, and respecting the rights of workers and local communities.

Although certification has been an important step towards sustainability, it has been criticized for being insufficient and for the lack of strict enforcement in some certified plantations. However, it remains a crucial tool to encourage more responsible practices in the palm oil industry.

Other Vegetable Oils
One of the most direct alternatives to palm oil are other vegetable oils, such as sunflower oil, soybean oil, and coconut oil. However, these oils also have their own environmental impacts, and often require more land to produce the same amount of oil as palm oil. This means that switching to other vegetable oils could, in some cases, exacerbate problems of deforestation and biodiversity loss.

One of the most promising alternatives is the development of cell-cultured palm oil.
