Origin of Afro-Colombian Day
Afro-Colombian Day was officially decreed by the Congress of the Republic in 2001, to be celebrated every May 21 . This anniversary was established on that date because on May 21, 1851, President José Hilario López signed the decree that abolished slavery in Colombia.
